In Praise of Quiet Adventure Games
Not every game needs a fail state. Some of my favorite recent evenings came from adventure games where the only thing at stake was my own curiosity.
Lantern Hollow is the one I keep pushing on people. You explore a dusk-lit village, solve gentle puzzles, and slowly piece together its story. There's no way to lose, and that freedom makes exploring feel generous.
These games work beautifully on phones because they don't need twitch reflexes. You can play them one-handed on a train and still be fully absorbed. The pacing suits real life.
If you've been burned by loud, demanding games, try something quiet next. It's a different kind of satisfying, and it lasts longer in your memory than another explosion ever will.
